A Guide to Secondary and Elementary Education

Primary or elementary school is the first few years of mandatory schooling. The grammar or grade schools are referred to as elementary schools. The secondary education starts for children from 12 to 18 years. The subjects are taught in high school. The high school design is categorized into senior high and junior school. The senior high school is recommended for students between 15 and 17 years and the junior high school is for students from 12 to 14 years of age group.

The elementary education is given to students who are in the age group of 5 to 6. It mostly depends on the state they are living and Kindergarten is provided. It is not compulsory to follow the attendance system for kindergarten students. As it the starting stage of school education, they are given training to come and go to the school. They will be taught basic subjects. The child should be between 5 to 6 years in order to get admitted in the kindergarten. The teacher will not be strict on attendance as it is first stage of schooling. By the time, the child turns six years, he/she should be joined in a kindergarten school.

The elementary school mostly remains co-educational. The class will have both girls and boys students. It is attended from 5 or 6 years to 11 years that is until the students go to junior high or middle school. In certain districts, the students are given elementary education until 13 years of age that is prior to attend senior high school.

The curriculum of elementary school differs with the establishment and the educational targets of individual local communities and schools. If the students performs well, they will be promoted from one grade to another. The promotion is given according to the attainment of particular skills. If the child does not perform well, he/she should continue to study in the same class.

The elementary schools offer teachings in the basic skills of maths, writing and reading and also covers geography and history (mostly taught combined in form of social studies), gym, physical education,leadership, art, science, talent development, music and crafts. The students will be taught foreign languages only during the high schools.

Most superior quality schools ensure to offer foreign language training for students. It will be launched in the last years of elementary education in certain area. It depends upon some cities. The state schools do not provide foreign language training. During the elementary education, children are given usual homework and the have asked to complete by the next day. In most schools, only few children ensure to complete the homework.

Secondary school

In certain districts, students attend middle school till 13 years of age or attend a joined senior or junior school before moving to the senior high school. It is almost four years. The secondary education remains co-educational like elementary school. The subjects mostly include coaching of new principles, social sciences or social studies, physical education, health, general science, maths and English.
